The world and development, 6 amazing pieces of technology

Planet earth, constantly developing in a direction that leads to some astonishing technology, a question often asked is ‘I wonder what we can expect in the future’ will hopefully be enlightened in my search to find some of the planets most astonishing gadgets.

1. Google Glass
google glass

This incredible set of glasses with primarily a computer screen attached still remains in development under Google X who were also responsible for the driverless car, though it is yet to be finalised Google are considering partnerships with Ray-Bans or Warby Parker as the glasses are yet to have lenses.

Now what makes this devise more than just a pair of glasses, the attached screen allows pictures, video and an added touch pad on the side allows the users to scroll down a time-line like display.

The glass explorer programme is set up to receive data through Wi-Fi, or via Bluetooth to an Android device or iPhone, using its 3G or 4G data and also a GPS chip.

For me the most scientific part comes through the voice command, users must say ‘ok glass’ followed by the command; the glasses also have an interchangeable sunglasses accessory that appears when the devise is turned off.

The glasses are believed to be priced around $1,500 with the release date roughly in 2014.

2. Sarcos Exoskeleton
Sarcos

In my attempt to discover the technical world many of us know little of, I want to focus around many diverse areas, from leisure/media to army use the difference in technology is great, from more visible to more physical.

The Sarcos Exoskeleton was developed in 1890 with the abilities to walk, jump and run, the mobile machine is an ‘iron Man’ like development in which the user gets into the devise to enhance his speed, power and general physical strength although many different types have been created for different purposes.

For any of you that have seen ‘Straship Troopers’ you may be amazed to hear that the book was the main innovator, Monty Reed a US army ranger suffered a broken back and stumbled across Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers in which he developed the idea of the LIFESUIT, he sent letters to the military in 2001 and the LIFESUIT one was created in 2003.

Since then the development has increased massively, the machine can now go for 1 mile when fully charged and can lift 80-300 kg whilst running or climbing stairs for the wearer, most models are controlled by an on board computer.

3. Go Pro HD Hero

Now the world of extreme sport is becoming more evolutionarily visible thanks to the Go Pro camera which appears a little less astonishing than a pair of glasses with a computer screen attached or a wearable robot but for those of you that have witnessed the pov surfing, base jumping, gliding videos and so on it may interest you to know a little more about the devise that captures these images.

The Go Pro was developed in San Mateo, California Woodman Labs for the sole purpose of recording amazing sporting moments, Nick Woodman was the founder of the idea following a surfing trip to Australia in 2002 when he attempted to record himself surfing.

Selling belts from a VW camper van inspired further as he attempted to make attachable belts for cameras, in 2004 the company developed greatly and ever since has adapted on a massive scale.

The HD hero camera is capable of capturing stills at 5 to 12 mega pixels, shockproof and waterproof to 180 ft/60 meters, having dimensions of 1.6” x 2.4” x 1.2” (42mm x 60mm x 30mm) and can capture 4K digital video at 15 frames per second, and 2.7K video at 30 frames per second.

4. ThrustSSC
ThrustSSC 1150x647

Most commonly known as the first land based vehicle to break the sound barrier but also the fastest ever land based vehicle, the ThrustSSC is a British jet-propelled car developed by Richard Noble, Glynne Bowsher, Ron Ayers and Jeremy Bliss.

The car is powered by two afterburning Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines also used in the F-4 Phantom II jet fighter, so a lot of speed and the car weighs 10.5 tons.

October 15, 1997 was the date the Land speed record was set, Andy Green managed to reach 763.035 mph.

5. Speech Jammer Guns

Many people play on the joke that Scientists occasionally stumble across gadgets that may not be completely beneficial towards development or general everyday use.

Despite that something that interested me is the Speech Jammer Gun, it may not sound incredible or useful but one thing it definitely does have is an incredible enhancement on technological development.

The idea of this gun is to cause people to instantly lose the ability to talk, simply point the gun towards their face and the devise works with an auditory feedback princeable, it plays the persons voice back with slight delay interrupting mid-speech, the persons brain cant compensate with the delay and therefore stops them speaking.

6. Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird
Lockheed_SR-71_Blackbird

This incredibly enhanced plane belonging to the United States Air force NASA was originally developed for speed, simply to out speed threatening aircraft and missiles.

The plane was created in 1964, Clarence “Kelly” Johnson is known responsible for the innovative design, the colour of the aircraft is dark blue or almost black in order to increase the emission of internal heat and to act as camouflage against the night sky.

Despite being a stealth bomber and super camouflage this plane has set the world speed record for planes, 85% of the frame is titanium, the streamline design built with flat edges aloud the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird to reach the speed of 2,193.2 mph.

Just to think billions of years ago when the world was free from technology and humans, just a ball covered with different objects that have now been proved by science and construction can be combined to created some amazing things.
